History & Evolution
In the mid-20th century, the Vazhakkala and Thrikkakara regions in Ernakulam district lacked major educational and cultural infrastructure. Following the establishment of Bharat Matha College in 1965, the local community felt an urgent need for a secondary school that would prepare students for higher studies.
Understanding this demand, His Eminence, the late Joseph Cardinal Parecattil, Archbishop of Ernakulam, founded Cardinal High School on June 28, 1976. The institution was built on a core philosophy: to provide standard secondary education to children from all backgrounds, regardless of their caste, creed, gender, or financial status.
The school originally began functioning as an extension branch of St. Augustine’s High School. In its inaugural year, it had just 180 students and three teachers. Driven by the dedication of the management and faculty, the school expanded rapidly.
When the Government of Kerala implemented the Plus Two educational system and delinked pre-degree courses from colleges, the school was upgraded to Cardinal High School (HS) on August 29, 1998. Today, it stands as a prestigious institution offering quality secondary and high school education to over a thousand students.
